Join us for a Quiet Meet Up strolling around Swanpool Nature Reserve, relaxing, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty

Swanpool Beach & Nature Reserve

Friday 9th September 10:00am - 12.00 midday

Swanpool is a small coastal saline lagoon with a shingle bar, separating it from the beach Nature Reserve. Swanpool Local Nature Reserve used to be part of the sea. The area was cut off by a shingle bar which formed after the last Ice Age, and a freshwater lake was created.

Check out the Nature Reserve here:

What we’re doing:

We'll be meeting in Swanpool Beach car park for a gentle stroll around the Nature reserve, with the chance to observe a vast array of wildlife.

This walk is approx 1 mile around on flat terrain.

Once we've taken a walk around the Reserve, we will relax on Swanpool Beach, with the option of enjoying an ice cream, drink or bite to eat from the Swanpool Cafe which offers home-made cakes, soups, toasted ciabattas and a very individual range of quirky ice-creams.

Meeting Point:

We will meet at 10am in the car park.  Look for Michele (pictured below).

Cost: Free.

Please bring some money if you would like to purchase any refreshments from the cafe.

You must register to let us know you are coming.

How you can help protect Swanpool

  • Be careful to avoid disturbing wildlife.
  • Don't go near nesting birds, keep to the paths.
  • Don't release animals like terrapins into the wild. They are not native to Britain and introducing them causes problems for other species in the pool.
  • Don't dump garden waste in the area - compost at home, or contact the Carrick recycling helpline: 01872 224 379
  • Please take all rubbish home with you.

Hi, I'm Michele!

I'm running the gathering.

Our Quiet Meet Up gatherings are a safe space for those of us who are quieter and feel anxious in social situations.

You’ll be part of a friendly group of like-minded individuals with similar feelings and stories in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Use the time and space to quietly connect and enjoy yourself in a way that feels comfortable for you.

We know how scary it can be meeting new people and going to new places so we believe that getting as far as the car park and through the door is a huge win for many of us! There's no need to set a big goal to speak and participate, you're invited to go at your own pace.

Here's what you can expect:

  • It's okay to talk, and it's okay to be quiet too. We understand that you may prefer to ease into conversation gradually, or want to simply enjoy sharing company with others. We welcome quietude and chatter.
  • We encourage you to go at your own pace. There's never any pressure to participate more than what feels right and good for you.
